Behind the Seams

Over the next few weeks we’ll be examining the concepts and sources of inspiration behind our 2013 Spring/Summer Collection.  To start off, we got a bit of insight from our US based designer, Mary Nagel, on her inspirations for the locally produced pieces we can expect to see this season.  One of the leading themes in her designs is drawn from the iconic clothing line Biba.  Biba was a popular London fashion store of the 1960s and 1970s.  It was started and primarily run by the Polish-born Barbara Hulanicki with help of her husband Stephen Fitz-Simon.

Mary has managed to give Biba-esque colors and prints a fresh, new feel that is perfect for the modern Jigsaw woman.  The styles promise the perfect blend of timeless fashion, with modern sophistication, all while maintaining the lasting and superior quality of fabric and construction on which Jigsaw London prides itself.  Here’s a closer look into this swinging 60′s style inspiration…

Looking forward to seeing this collection (although can’t quite remember vivid Aztec prints as a key Biba look) If done with respect, attention to detail and great care it could be successful.
It is quite brave for a modern designer to publicly cite such an iconic designer as an inspiration.
At the very least this collection won’t be the dreadful pastiche that House of Fraser has been selling in their so called Biba department….and it certainly wont be as mind-blowingly dreadful as that dreadful schmutter Debenhams are peddling under the Ossie Clark label.
